Quick answer
For everyday lens cleaning, reach for the Lens-Aid microfiber cloth 5-pack. These 20x20 cm black cloths lift dust and oil without scratching, and they're machine-washable, so you always have a clean one ready.
Why microfiber beats paper and spray
Paper towels and lens-cleaning sprays can leave lint or residue. Microfiber's split fibers trap particles inside the cloth, not on your lens. The 200 g/m² weight of these cloths gives them enough density to grab fingerprints without being abrasive.
The 5-pack advantage
One cloth can get dirty fast. With five cloths, you keep one for glasses, one for your camera bag, and spares for screens. Rotating them reduces the risk of grinding grit into a lens. The black color hides stains, so you can see when it's time to wash.
Diagnosis: Is your lens dirty or damaged?
- Symptom: You see hazy spots or streaks when looking through the lens.
- Likely cause: Dust, skin oils, or smeared cleaning residue on the front element.
- Corrective action: 1. Blow off loose dust with a blower. 2. Gently wipe in a spiral from center to edge with a dry microfiber cloth from the 5-pack. 3. For stubborn oil, breathe lightly on the lens to add moisture, then wipe again. If streaks remain after two passes, the cloth may be dirty. Switch to a fresh one from the pack.
- Stop or choose another option: If you see scratches or coating damage, stop wiping. A microfiber cloth cannot repair physical damage. Use a lens pen for stubborn spots, or consult a repair shop. When the cloth itself feels greasy after washing, replace it. Microfiber has a limited lifespan.
